Early childhood is the perfect time to start incorporating healthy messages into the day! Some of our favorite resources include the following:
|Color Me Healthy
|Color Me Healthy™ is a program developed to reach children ages four and five with fun, interactive learning opportunities on physical activity and healthy eating. It is designed to stimulate all of the senses of young children: touch, smell, sight, sound, and, of course, taste. Through the use of color, music, and exploration of the senses, Color Me Healthy teaches children that healthy food and physical activity are fun.
|Let’s Move Child Care
|Tons of great resources from the Let’s Move! initiative.
|Pick a Better Snack and Act
|The Iowa Nutrition Network's social marketing campaign, Pick a better snack™ encourages fruit and vegetable choices for snacks. The “Act” represents the importance of daily physical activity.
In general, simply getting young kids to try new fruits and veggies can be a wonderful program. Nurture has created simple lessons to create a “star” of the month for the fruits and veggies listed below. Please also see your own state’s resources for info sheets on locally grown foods. In Idaho, Idaho’s Preferred Resources are great additional materials for nutrition lessons and include:
- Farm to School manual
- Food of the Month posters
- Produce Fact Sheets
- Healthy Harvest Booklet
- Colors Brochure
